The Barrel ("we," "our," or "us") respects your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

Information We Collect

• Account information: email address and a username you choose when you create an account.
• Collection data: details you enter about bottles you own, including names, distilleries, proof, purchase price, and personal notes.
• Tasting notes: flavor impressions, ratings, and tasting context you choose to log.
• Community content: posts, comments, likes, and follows you make visible to other users or to your private tasting circles.
• Photos: images you capture of bottle labels using the in-app scanner.

AI-Powered Label Scanning

The Barrel includes a feature that lets you photograph a bottle label to automatically identify it. When you use this feature:

• The photo you take is sent to Anthropic's Claude AI model for analysis.
• Claude identifies the bottle name, distillery, age statement, proof, and mashbill from the image.
• The photo is processed solely to extract this information and is not used to train AI models or stored by us beyond what's needed to complete the scan.
• Content suggested by the scanner is clearly presented to you for review before being saved to your collection — you always have the final say.

How We Use Your Information

• To operate your personal bottle collection and tasting log.
• To power community features like the feed, comments, and tasting circles.
• To connect you with other collectors through the trade board, at your choice.
• To maintain the security and integrity of the app.

What We Don't Do

• We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
• We do not broker, facilitate, or process any exchange of alcohol or payment between users on the trade board — all trades are arranged directly between users at their own discretion and responsibility.
• We do not display third-party advertising in the app.

Data Sharing

We use the following service providers to operate The Barrel:

• Supabase — our database and authentication provider, which stores your account and collection data securely.
• Anthropic — provides the Claude AI model used for label scanning, as described above.

We do not share your personal data with any other third parties except as required by law.

Content Moderation

Users can report posts or comments they believe violate our community standards. Reports are reviewed and may result in content removal or account action.

Your Choices

• You can mark tasting notes as private so they are never shown in the community feed.
• You can delete bottles, tasting notes, or posts you've created at any time.
• You can leave any tasting circle at any time.
• You can request deletion of your account and associated data by contacting us below.

Children's Privacy

The Barrel is intended for adults of legal drinking age in their jurisdiction. We do not knowingly collect information from children, and the app is not directed at minors.

We may update this policy from time to time. We will update the "Last updated" date above when changes are made.
